Welcome to the session, Aligning Green Chemistry Education to Professional Academic Standards.
This session will introduce participants to the expectations of various professional academic organizations on Green Chemistry education, such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
The session will specifically address the three levels of requirements outlined in the 2023 ACS Guidelines for Bachelor’s degree programs as they pertain to Green Chemistry education and will align these with the student learning objectives of the Green Chemistry Commitment (GCC) program by Beyond Benign.
This session will also review the safety culture requirements of these academic standards and explore how practicing Green Chemistry can lead to a safe laboratory environment.
At the end of the session, you will engage in a reflective activity to connect what you’ve learned to your own teaching contexts.
Session Learning Outcomes
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify strategies to align course and curriculum content with Green Chemistry and sustainability standards, following guidelines from organizations such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) and Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) as well as the Green Chemistry Commitment Student Learning Objectives.
