Welcome to the course, An Introduction to Undergraduate Green Chemistry Teaching and Practice.
This multi-session course supports educators in integrating Green Chemistry into undergraduate teaching, emphasizing its societal and educational relevance.
What to Expect:
- Session 1: Introduction to the foundational principles of Green Chemistry, real-world applications, historical context, and sample curricular activities.
- Session 2: Exploration of expectations from professional organizations such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), review of the Green Chemistry Commitment Student Learning Objectives, and a discussion of the connection between Green Chemistry and Safety.
- Session 3: Review of curricular examples across chemistry disciplines, instructional design frameworks (including backward design and design thinking), and strategies for developing standalone Green Chemistry courses.
- Session 4: Examination of the history and principles of environmental justice, exploration of its intersection with Green Chemistry, strategies for integrating justice topics into the curriculum, and reflection on the educator’s role in empowering students as change agents.
Each session includes:
- Lessons, quizzes, and assignments – all required to earn your certificate of completion.
- Reflective activities – designed to help you connect course content with your own teaching practice.
- Capstone project – built progressively through session prompts, culminating in the submission of a learning object on the Green Chemistry Teaching and Learning Community (GCTLC) platform.

3. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click the Request to Join button and follow the instructions.
4. Allow 1–2 business days for your request to be approved and watch for a confirmation email.
5. Once approved, dive into the course: explore assignments, join discussions, and connect with your peers.
