Welcome to the session, Overview and Immersing Students in Green Chemistry.
This session provides a holistic exploration of Green Chemistry and sustainability, equipping participants with essential knowledge and skills. This course starts with the definition of Green Chemistry, a brief history of the chemical industry to contextualize Green Chemistry’s role and applications. Additionally, the session will highlight industry’s challenges to incorporating Green Chemistry including the lack of technical expertise and hence the need for Green Chemistry education.
The session then draws attention to various institutions and organizations working to promote Green Chemistry education.
Finally, the session presents discipline-specific curricular examples that align with the Green Chemistry principles and Beyond Benign’s Green Chemistry Commitment (GCC) student learning objectives (SLOs).
At the end of this session, you will engage in a reflective activity to connect what you’ve learned to your own teaching contexts.
Session Learning Outcomes
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Explain the history and importance of Green Chemistry.
- Give examples of Green Chemistry applications in industry and research.
